Presbyopia in all simplicity is the
diminishing in one’s vision over the course of a lifetime. Basically, as well
all age our ability to focus and see things as clearly begin to fade. This is
not so much a medical issue as it is more of an aging condition. Pesbyopia is
the loss of eye sight or the diminishing of the eyesight as a result of getting
older and it is a fact of life. While not everyone may have to wear glasses as
they age, there is a strong possibility that you may need to wear them.
Furthermore, this vision impairment can also be as acute as to the requirement
of needing no glasses at all to correct the impairment.
Just as our skin will some day begin to
wrinkle and our hair will begin to grey, every tissue in our body ages and will
start to show this aging in a variety of ways. The purpose of our eyes is to
see and this is the only real purpose of the organ so when they too begin to
fade along with them goes the vision. Of course this is not just a sudden occurrence
as we actually slowly lose our eyesight over time but it is not until the age
of about 40 or 50 that the presbyopia first starts to become apparent.
On the good side though, sometimes
pesbyopia can counteract myopia and where you may have had to wear reading
glasses in the past, the general degrading of the vision can sometime result in
an improvement in the condition that caused the myopia in the first place.
Unfortunately, as of current there is no
real way of curing presbyopia and while doctors are researching ways to help
this issue it is important to keeping mind that this vision impairment is not
caused by a single tissue type in the eye like most other impairments, but it
is as of a result of the compounded weakening of many tissues in the eye. This
means that the focusing problems while can be attributed directed to the lens
of the eye, can also be caused by the cornea, retinal as well as the stem of
the eye all fading synchronously. Some day there will be a cure or remedy to
presbyopia much like being able to go out and get a face lift, but until then
having to deal with the gradual breakdown of our vision will be commonplace for
all.
